Say what you will about Hawaii's decision to use furlough Fridays in the state education system to help solve the state's budget problems,  it is not playing well on the national scene.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan has conmplained, (you can see his op-ed HERE) and now the New York TImes has weighed in. quite negatively. Read their take HERE.

Point being, the governor, the school board and the teachers' union drifted into an uncomfortable cul-de-sac and now have no easy way out. It will be interesting to see who can untangle this mess.
